To work in Hollywood is often a dream of every child who has ever seen a movie. Becoming a voice over talent has often been the dream of many an adult. While a number of male voice over talents often apply for jobs, only about one in a thousand make the cut. The limited availability of jobs, and those whom just do not have the voice for this kind of work can speak to the pros and cons of the business.

There are websites which offer exchange services for jobs and for those looking for talent. Individuals can take individualized training, live in remote areas and still make big bucks. Although, creating a professional demo can often costs upwards of a few thousand dollars, at least in the United States. Two of these websites are Voices.com, and Voice123.com. Both offer the opportunity to create a profile, a demo and to search and apply for a number of jobs in the industry.

While most individuals want to work in film, radio and television, there are often more jobs in relation to advertising, commercials and websites. Flexibility can go a long way in working towards becoming a narrator for film and television, or working with an online or traditional radio station.

Having a clear, concise voice and wide vocal range are also key elements to success. Individuals who have these qualities often make it big in the business. Whereas, those whom can only speak in a monotone voice without any range whatsoever, often do not fair as well. For these individuals, it is important when looking for work in the industry to look for jobs which require this type of voice.

Whether male or female, there are some things an individual needs to know to become successful. First, it is important regardless of the position and tone, to always sound natural. Whether talking in sultry sexy voice, or the voice of the God, vocals need to be as clear and natural, unless directed otherwise.

When people can meet these qualifications, it provides an even better chance for opportunity. Although, there are some instances in which directors, or others may have requirements for monotone speakers as well as those with a wide range. Still, when applying for a job in the industry, it is often best to provide a recording which shows a wide range in vocal ability.

Some studios prefer individuals work on-site, given the right attitude and persuasion one can still often work from home. When provided this opportunity, it is essential to always meet deadlines early, or on time. Otherwise, the opportunity not only to work at home but to work at all may be eliminated, often without notice. It is also important that when requested to attend meetings at a studio or other location to show up looking professional and on time.

While actors often find it easy to speak in many different voices, those without any experience often find it more difficult to record quality voice overs. Just one reason why there are a number of different programs, workshops and other opportunities which provide training for up and coming talents in the industry.
