One of the most important, and memorable events in an individual's life is getting married. For many, their dream scenario is to have their ceremony on the sand in front of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. There are a couple of things one should be aware of when making plans for a romantic Southern California beach wedding to help make the experience smoother.

Because sunny, sandy beaches with the sun glistening upon the Pacific Ocean at sunset is a particularly popular ceremony setting, anyone wanting this option should start planning as soon as possible. There are many great venues to be had, but they tend to be booked far in advance. Certain restrictions may also limit viable choices for a couple.

Beaches tend to be mostly public access so it can be a bit challenging to find a private area, which is one reason venue choice is key. A particular location may have the exclusive sandy section desired or be able to provide a ceremonial space that has a lovely view of the ocean. Other things that might influence one's options could be special requests or needs, catering specifics and guest count.

Guests should definitely be made aware if the ceremony is going to physically take place in the sand. If they have this knowledge ahead of time, they can dress in shoes and clothing that is more appropriate for the location. The bride may want to consider sandals or going barefoot instead of heels and a shorter, lighter weight dress versus a full formal ball gown.

To keep guests from being inconvenienced by the glaring sun and clinging sand, a few creative amenities might be able to help. Shoe valets allow people to switch out their formal footwear for customized flip flops, and provides a place where they can use soft bristled brushes to wipe their feet off and switch back to their other shoes for the reception. Passing out visors, hats or sunglasses as favors will also shield eyes and keep everyone more comfortable.

Though the weather is almost always perfect in this part of the state, there are times when rain or wind may cause issue. Anytime an outdoor event is planned, it is important to have a back-up option just in case. Many of the venues are prepared for such circumstances and may have tents, shelters or indoor spaces available for emergency use.

Since having the vast Pacific Ocean as a back drop and the sandy expanse as the ceremony space, there really is no need to go overboard with the decorations at such an event. Most people choose to keep it simple with covers on the seating and a minimally adorned arch or chuppah that will frame the couple and officiant in this majestic setting. Floral arrangements are typically limited to a few pedestal bouquets or accent pieces on the aisle chairs.

This type of ceremony is truly personal but their is a business aspect to it that should not be forgotten. A lot of headache can be avoided by carefully reading all contracts with one's planner, caterer, venue and vendors before signing the agreements. It is highly advisable to verify with all coordinators to confirm that all necessary permits have been obtained.
